Hi,
a very nice example for an open source project incorporating distrubuted
evolution of control programs for walking robots is the recently finished
student project SIGEL. Take a look at the projects homepage at
http://sigel.sourceforge.net
or view the detailed project at sourceforce itself
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sigel/
We used DynaMechs as the physical engine (it works fine, but has some
limitations) and Genetic Programming to evolve programs on a cluster of
workstations/PCs with PVM that made robots with arbitrary morphology walk
(or, better, move)
The real-time simulation of the robot and the control program can be viewed
with an Open-GL visualization. You can download binaries or the source code.
On the WWW-pages you can find mpeg-movies showing the results of some of our
evolutionary experiments.
The project is open source, so everyone is welcome to join it.
Hope to have made you curious about it...
