[bip] BioPython

Hi Everyone

Sometime ago Andrew wrote to the list:

"There was no cohesive team developing Biopython with shared vision.
As a result, Biopython ended up as a set of only somewhat related
modules, with only minimal API commonality. Which is being worked
on and improved, but only slowly.

Which is why I say Biopython is not monolithic. It's a lot
of not-really-fitting-together pieces. Making it hard to learn."

What are the main criticisms towards BioPython, apart from the above? What is good and what is bad about it?

I have never used BioPython, it always seemed easier for me to learn how to do it myself than use the package. Also at work is very difficult (bureaucratic) to install some packages in Python and I needed some that I could use at work and home at the same time with no constraints.

Cheers

Paulo
