Last call for pieces

MusicAL 2007 Concert

A-life composers are invited to propose compositions for performance at
the MusicAL concert in the evening of 12 September 2007, at 9.30pm, at
the "Instituto Franco-Portugues" Concert Hall.

http://cmr.soc.plymouth.ac.uk/Musical2007/concert.htm

The MusicAL concert will be the second concert of the Musica Viva
Festival, which will continue for a few days after the workshop. The
Musica Viva Festival is a prestigious international contemporary music
festival organised by Miso Music Portugal. This is a wonderful
opportunity to stay for a few additional days in Lisbon and enjoy its
vibrant music scene. More details about the festival will be available
at Miso's website at:

http://www.misomusic.com/ingl/circul/mviva/2007.html

The compositions for the MusicAL concert should ideally be
electronic/electroacoustic, for up to 16 channels. Compositions with
accompanying visuals for projection are welcome. For those wishing to
propose pieces involving live performance (laptop performance, live
generative, interactive electronics, etc.) please contact Joao Martins
for an informal enquiry to ascertain whether we can support it. (Please
be advised that we cannot provide performers.)

The sound diffusion system will be the Miso Music Loudspeaker Orchestra,
comprising over 40 loudspeakers, divided into 6 different sub-systems,
placed all around the concert hall, distributed both horizontally and
vertically. Composers will have the opportunity to rehearse the
diffusion of their pieces on the day before the concert. Please refer to
the following website for more information about the magnificent Miso
Music Loudspeaker Orchestra:

http://www.misomusic.com/ingl/research/ol.html

The pieces should be submitted on an audio CD to reach us no later than
04 June 2007. Multi-channel pieces other than stereo should be mixed
into a stereo version for the submission stage. If selected, then for
the performance we will require the multi-channel version as mono AIFF
files, one for each channel. The pieces will be selected by a committee
formed by the organisers of MusicAL and the Musica Viva Festival. Please
bear in mind that priority will be given to pieces composed with or
inspired by A-Life in a way or another. Ideally, pieces should not last
for more than 15 minutes.

Accompanying the CD, please send:

a) The programme notes for the piece (no more than 500 words); please,
explain what is the relation of the piece with A-life
b) A short biography of the composer (no more than 500 words)
c) Full contact details (address, email, website, etc.)
