[pony-build] Pushing a branch

Sorry if this is a rather simple question, but just wondering how do I go about pushing changes in a particular new branch up to my remote repository (github)?  Right now if I switch to my new branch, make changes/commit them, then attempt to git push the changes, I just get the message "Everything up-to-date".  Is there anything special I have to do in order to let github know that I have a new branch going?
