Hi all,

Dr. Patrick Schloss from the University of Michigan will be giving a seminar
entitled "Microbial ecology in the age of next generation sequencing" on
February 9, 2009 (4:10, 1415 BPS) and joining the Metagenomics Journal Club
the following Wednesday, February 10, 2009.   If you would like to meet with
Dr. Schloss, please send an email to Adina at howead at msu.edu, and we will
try to make arrangements if possible.

Dr. Schloss's research focuses on developing tools to describe and compare
microbial communities using molecular data.  He is a key developer of
software (most recently Mothur) that helps scientists analyze metagenomic
sequencing data to make inferences  about the structure and function of
microbial communities.  He is also involved in research focused on
understanding the interactions between humans and our microbes, more
commonly called the human microbiome.  His website can be found at the
