  The Second International Workshop on the
   Evolution of Morphology and Behaviour

   To be held in conjunction with SAB'02

Aim

The aim of this workshop is to promote communication
and the exchange of ideas between researchers involved
in the study of the evolution of morphology and behaviour
in physically- or virtually-embodied creatures. A

It is hoped that the workshop will build upon the success
of its predecessor, the Workshop on the Coevolution of
Brains and Bodies, which took place at the Artificial Life 7
conference in Portland, Oregon in August 2000.

Submission of work relating to the evolution of adaptive,
reconfigurable morphology is particularly encouraged for
this year's workshop.

As with the original workshop, the organisers wish to
encourage a lively discussion and exchange of ideas. For
this reason, we will accept the submission of extended
abstracts and demonstration proposals, as well as full
papers (see below for submission details). We encourage
participants to talk about work in progress and future
research directions. Reviews of simulation technology or
current research are also welcome.


Location, Date and Format

The EMBody 2 workshop will be held in conjunction with
SAB'02, in Edinburgh, Scotland. It will take place in the
weekend after the main conference, on Sunday 11 August.

[At present, the workshop is scheduled for a 4.5 hour
session in the afternoon of Sunday 11 August. It is possible
that this may be extended (earlier start and/or later finish)
if required, depending on room availability. Details on this
will be published on the EMBody2 and SAB webpages by 19 April.]

The workshop will include presentations of accepted papers,
demonstrations, plus time for open discussion. A list of
possible topics of discussion, based upon the submitted
papers, will be distributed to registered participants some
weeks before the workshop. Participants are also welcome to
suggest their own topics for discussion by email to
tim.taylor at ed.ac.uk


Paper/Demo Submission

Full papers, extended abstracts, and/or brief descriptions
of demonstrations should be submitted electronically (PDF
or PS for papers/abstracts) to tim.taylor at ed.ac.uk, with
subject line "EMBODY2 SUBMISSION", by Friday 5 April 2002.

Papers and abstracts should be in 10pt, two-column format.
Full papers should not exceed 8 pages, and extended
abstracts should not exceed 4 pages. A Latex template and
further formatting instructions can be found at:

Accepted submissions will be published in the SAB workshop
proceedings.

Anyone wishing to give a demonstration of their work should
submit a brief description of the demo, including any
special software or hardware requirements. For
demonstrations, a PC and data projector will be available
at the workshop, although participants wishing to give
demonstrations are strongly advised to bring their
demonstration on a laptop computer if it requires any
unusual software or hardware. Any questions regarding
demonstrations should be sent to Tim Taylor as soon as
possible.


Registration

We have attempted to keep the costs of this workshop to a
minimum. Provisional registration fees, to be confirmed by
19 April, are as follows:

Student, early (before 31 May):     25 GBP
Student, late  (after  31 May):     30 GBP
Non-student, early (before 31 May): 30 GBP
Non-student, late  (after  31 May): 35 GBP
