                 Two Postdoctoral Fellowship Positions
                    in Artificial Life and Robotics

Two postdoctoral fellowship positions in the Artificial Life and Robotics
Laboratory of Oita University are are available for young foreign
researchers who are interested in hardware based artificial life.
These two postdoctoral fellowship positions are funded by the Japanese
Ministry of Education, Science, Sports, and Culture.

Research area: Artificial Brains for Robots

Conditions:

(1) Full-time research on developing artificial brains in robots.
    For example, research on coevolution of brains and bodies for use in
    welfare robots, etc..

(2) The period of the position is one year, starting early September,
    however, the period can be extended to two years.

(3) Researchers who have strong background in electrical and mechanical
    engineering, artificial life, and robotics in addition to brain science,
    are desirable.

(4) Age limitation is 35.

(5) Annual salary is JPY 3,860,000, around $36,000 (decided by the
    Ministry).

(6) Airfare is not covered.  This is a Ministry regulation.

Please send your vita including the title of the Ph.D degree by
e-mail and send the certificate of Ph.D degree by fax before September
15-20.  On September 25, applicants will be chosen to fill the position.

Also, the Artificial Life and Robotics Lab at Oita University will
accept several foreign Ph.D candidates who will be partially supported
by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science, Sports, and Culture
(other scholarships are also available) from next April in the fields
of artificial life and robotics. The entrance examination will be
held next February.  Interested students should send their vita
and research plans by e-mail first.  Ph.D candidates who are selected
from their vita should arrive at the laboratory before the entrance
examination.
