Hi Data Carpentry discuss list!

We're excited to announce that Data Carpentry has received a
contribution from the Moore Foundation for its continued development and
growth.

http://datacarpentry.github.io/blog/

What does this mean for Data Carpentry?

1) We set up a blog
http://datacarpentry.github.io/blog/
The blog is designed to announce Data Carpentry activities and events,
but also to post about data topics. Please let us know if you have a
blog post you would be interested in contributing.

2) We created a new discuss list
Since we now have datacarpentry domains set up, we've moved the discuss
list over to that domain.
The new discuss list is here:
http://lists.idyll.org/listinfo/dc-discuss
Please sign up if you're interested in hearing more about Data Carpentry
or want to be involved in lesson development or instructing.

3) We have a project lead
The Moore Foundation contribution is going to the support of a project
lead. Tracy Teal will be that project lead. She's already been working
on Data Carpentry through her appointment at the NSF BIO Center BEACON
and will now be able to devote herself to Data Carpentry activities full
time.

4) Workshops
We're still developing our model of how we're going to coordinate
workshops.

Instructing
The training to be a Data Carpentry instructor is the same as being a
Software Carpentry instructor. So, if you're a Software Carpentry
instructor and you would be interested in teaching a Data Carpentry
workshop, please let us know. In the next few weeks we'll also be
sending out an email to the SWC list to see who might be interested in
teaching Data Carpentry and setting up a database of who's interested in
teaching what. As more train-the-trainers are run, there will likely
also be instructors who just want to teach Data Carpentry.

Hosting
Again, we're still figuring out how to coordinate workshops. We don't
want to commit to running them without knowing we'll have the capacity.
If you're interested in hosting one though, please get in touch, and it
will give us a good sense of how to meet the demand and interest.

5) Lesson development
We're still developing lessons in our github repo
https://github.com/datacarpentry/datacarpentry
We've mainly focused on the biology lessons, but are working on genomics
lessons, social sciences and geosciences. Stay tuned on the discuss list
for more on those soon, or watch the repo or let us know if you want to
be involved in working on any of these lessons.

6) Funding
The Moore Foundation contribution is a short term one. We're still
working to establish support for core Data Carpentry activities. If your
institute or organization is interested in being involved in supporting
and further developing Data Carpentry, please get in touch.

Thank you so much for your support and engagement with Data Carpentry so
far. We look forward to lots more Data Carpentry ahead!

Best,
-Tracy
Very excited to be the new project lead!
