I'm aware that python has namespace packaging, but AFAIK, its a
setuptools extension. Not part of the core language itself.

Also, any idea when that feature came out? I see it first mentioned
for 0.5a9 but no date. Googling "setuptools 0.5a9" is returning stuff
from 2005.
