Thank you to all the researchers who submitted entries before the original
deadline (updated versions may be submitted until the new deadline). In
order to also accommodate others, we have extended the deadline by two
weeks to *June 26, 2016.*

We very much look forward to seeing your entries to the:

*Virtual Creatures Competition*
https://www.cs.utexas.edu/~joel/virtual_creatures_contest2016/submit/

to be held as part of the

2016 Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO-2016)

July 20-24 2016, Denver, Colorado, USA  http://gecco-2016.sigevo.org/
<http://www.sigevo.org/gecco-2013/>

Extended (final) Submission Deadline for this competition is *June 26, 2016*

The third annual Virtual Creatures Competition at the Genetic and
Evolutionary Computation Conference showcases the power, beauty, and
creativity of evolutionary computation through virtual creatures with
evolved morphologies and controllers. The goal of this competition is to
create an archive of recent achievements in the evolution of embodied
agents in virtual creatures/evolutionary robotics.

== Entry Submission ==

Entrants must submit: (1) a video of up to 5 minutes that demonstrates an
evolved virtual creature (or many such creatures) engaging in interesting
adaptive behavior, and (2) a brief paper (no more than 2 pages) describing
the video and the underlying evolutionary algorithm and innovation of the
approach. All submissions should be sent to nac93 at cornell.edu or jleh at itu.dk
by June 12, 2016. Please note that *attending the conference is not
required to submit an entry*.

== Evaluation ==

The submissions will be peer-reviewed by prominent researchers from the
evolutionary computation and artificial life communities. Each submission
will be judged on the following criteria: perceptual animacy (perceived
aliveness), technical achievement, aesthetic appeal, and innovation.

== Presentation ==

Finalists selected by the jury will be invited to present their submission
at the competition session, held during the GECCO conference. The winner of
the competition will be announced at the SIGEVO meeting ceremony, on July
24, 2016.
