Position Title: Software Application Developer
Primary Department: BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action, =
Michigan State University

Position summary
This is a software development position working with scientists and =
educators to extend, test, implement and support the cross-platform =
Avida-ED digital evolution educational software =
<http://avida-ed.msu.edu>.  The core of the position Involves =
programming, application development, and interface design under the =
direction of the project leaders.  Other important responsibilities =
include: work with current development team on project assignments as =
well as individual assignments; be able to clearly explain and document =
open-source code so it is understandable and extendable by other =
programmers and researchers; develop and maintain web site, server, =
database, and online user community support site; consult with, train, =
and assist end users, including students and classroom instructors.
Note: This position is funded as part of two concurrent 5-year grants.  =
It is possible that subsequent grants may extend the project, but =
otherwise the position ends in August 2019.
Salary: Negotiable based on experience

Minimum requirements
A bachelor=92s degree in computer science, information systems or a =
related information technology field, with coursework relevant to this =
position, or equivalent industry experience.
Strong programming skills in C++.

Desired qualifications
Experience with the Boost library.
Experience with JavaScript.
Experience with Mac OS software development using Objective C and Xcode.
Experience with Windows software development.
Experience with Linux software development.
Experience using Emacs.
Experience with the Unity Development Platform.
Evolutionary computation methods, such as genetic algorithms.
Undergraduate coursework in biology, especially evolutionary biology.
Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills.
Experience with GUI design.
