*************************************************************************

We invite submissions to the Science Visualization Competition at the ALIFE
2014 conference. Research in Artificial Life covers a wide range of
different topics from computer models of artificial organisms and robotic
systems to the creation of synthetic DNA. The goal of the ALIFE Science
Visualization Competition is to make these concepts accessible to a broader
audience while also encouraging the cross-pollination of ideas between
different ALife subfields. The competition will be divided into two main
categories: visual print (e.g. illustrations, photographs) and visual media
(e.g. videos, demos), with awards in each category. Selected work will be
showcased during the conference to be held in New York City, New York, USA.

EVALUATION

Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of artificial life researchers,
non-researchers and artists. Each submission will be judged on its
creativity, originality, visual impact, relevance, and ability to
effectively communicate a scientific concept through visualization.
Submissions will be placed into two groups: print media including
illustrations and photographs, and new media works including video art and
demonstrations. Which group must be specified by the participant during
submission. All work must be original.

PRESENTATION

Accepted presenters can either bring a poster of their work (visual print
category) or show their work on their own laptop (visual media). The
selected work will be displayed in a showcase room at the conference venue
from July 31st – August 2nd. Maximum size for posters displayed should be
36 in x 48 in. The winners of the visualization challenge will be
determined through voting of the conference attendees and will be announced
at the closing ceremony on August 2nd, 2014.
