A PhD position, with associated studentship, is available at Plymouth University within the Centre of Robotics and Neural Systems, School of Computing and Mathematics.



Project Description



The research is part of the new EU-EACEA funded project ENACT: Enhancing Negotiation skills through on-line Assessment of Competencies and interactive mobile Training.

The PhD student will carry out research and computational experiments for the design and implementation of a computational model of negotiation skills based on psychological models. The computational model will serve two fundamental functions within the project: (a) the computational system will govern the behaviour of an artificial agent that will interact with a human user; and (b) the computational system will govern the activities of an artificial intelligent tutor that will provide the basis for the automatic assessment of the user's negotiation skills.



The work will be done in close collaboration with experimental and occupational psychologists for the selection and the operationalization of the psychological model that will be implemented for the project.



Eligibility

Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a high grade Bachelors or, preferably, Masters Degree in, Cognitive Science, Computer Science (with human-computer interaction focus), Psychology, or related disciplines. The candidate must have a keen interest in computer technologies and cognitive modelling and a strong motivation to perform research and work in collaboration with experts on different disciplines. Previous experience with human-computer interaction experiments or artificial intelligence in games is desirable. Awareness of research methods and experimental psychology methodologies is essential.
