Traveling Information

San Luis Potosí is one of the main industrial hubs in central Mexico and the tenth largest urban area in the country. Originally a mining center of colonial times, nowadays its importance has grown thanks to its strategic location for trade, as the city is located halfway between Mexico City and the United States border, as well as in the middle of the triangle formed by Mexico City and the other two largest cities in Mexico, Guadalajara and Monterrey.

Accessibility By Air:

San Luis Potosí has an international airport with regular daily service from Dallas and Houston, in Texas US, as well as from Monterrey and Mexico City. In most cases, international visitors arrive in Mexico City and take a short fly to San Luis Potosí (Travel time of about 45minutes) or continue by land.

Accessibility By Land:

San Luis Potosí can be reach by car/autobus from Mexico City, Guadalajara, or Monterrey in about 4~5 hours. In México travel by autobus from city to city is the most common mode of transportation, on first class buses with air-conditioning, entertainment choices and Internet service (Travel time 5 hours with departures from Mexico City every 30 minutes, average price of $50 USDollars).

Details of the Conference Venue:

In the historic center of San Luis Potosí, one of the most representative buildings is the “Rectoría de la Universidad” the Rectory house of the university, located at Plaza Fundadores, the Square of the Founders, within this building there are sufficient halls and a main theater with capacity for 350 persons.

Accomodations:

San Luis Potosí has a large selection of 4 star, 5 star and special class hotels including international chains like Hilton, Westin and Fiesta Americana, both inside the historic center and in the residential section of the city. We are procuring special rates for participants of PhysCon2013 in hotels within walking distance from the conference venue.

Sightseeing Information

As part of the Highplains of central Mexico San Luis Potosí is a major example of colonial architecture, and is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site within Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. In that regard San Luis Potosí is situated in between three other UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the colonial cities of Zacatecas, Guanajuato, and Queretaro, all can be reach in a 2~3 hour drive.
