EPIA is the main International Conference of Artificial Intelligence in Portugal, supported by Portuguese Artificial Intelligence Association (APPIA). The purpose of the conference is to promote research in AI and scientific exchange among AI researchers, practitioners, scientists, and engineers in related disciplines.

EPIA conferences has been organized since 1989 every two years. Continuing the successful tradition, EPIA 2013, the Sixteenth Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence, will be held in the campus of University of Azores in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island (http://www.epia2013.uac.pt/), 9-13, September, 2013. A selection of the best conference papers is published at Springer as “Progress in Artificial Intelligence”, Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence subseries.

We are hereby announcing the conference and distributing the first call for Thematic Tracks.  Please pass on the information and we hope to see you next year in Azores.

Track proposals should be submitted electronically, in PDF, to the conference email: epia2013 at gmail.com.

Scope
The worldwide AI research community is invited to submit proposals of thematic tracks for the 16th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Thematic tracks are intended to provide an informal environment that fosters the active exchange of ideas between researchers within specific sub-areas of AI, including theoretical/foundational, integrative, application oriented and newly emerging areas.

Important dates
	• Deadline for track proposals: November 30, 2012
	• Notification of track acceptance: December 17, 2013
	• Conference dates: September 9-13, 2013

Proposal submission
Track proposals should not exceed 3 pages and should contain the following information:
	• Thematic track title.
	• A brief description of the specific scientific/technical scope of the track (max 500 words).
	• A list of topics of interest (max 20 topics).
	• The reasons the track should be held within EPIA’2013.
	• Name, postal address, phone and fax numbers and email address of all the members of the track Organizing Committee.
	• Identification of the member of the track Organizing Committee who is the contact person.
	• The list of members of the proposed track Program Committee.
	• A preliminary version of the track Call for Papers.
	• The planned format (e.g., invited talks, paper presentations, panel discussions, etc.) and duration of the track.
	• Planned forms of publicizing the track.
	• A list of audio-visual or technical requirements and any special room requirements.
	• Specific initiatives to support and improve the quality of the overall conference.
	• Sponsors or other funding initiatives for the thematic track.
