** Apologies for Cross-Posting **

Dear Colleagues,
We would like to cordially invite you and your co-workers to contribute
and to attend, the 2012 Postgraduate Conference on Robotics and
Development of Cognition (ROBOTDOC-PHD 2012), to be held on September
10-12, Lausanne, Switzerland. The ROBOTDOC-PHD is a Satellite event of
the 22nd International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks (ICANN
2012).

Conference description
------------------------------
The aim of the Postgraduate Conference on Robotics and Development of
Cognition (RobotDoC-PhD) is to bring together young scientists working
on developmental cognitive robotics and its core disciplines. The
conference aims to provide feedback on, and greater visibility of, the
participants’ research, and seeks to foster lively and stimulating
discussion between the PhD students and senior researchers. The
conference is open to all PhD students and Post-Doctoral researchers in
the field. RobotDoC-PhD conference is an initiative as a part of the
Marie-Curie Actions ITN RobotDoC (www.robotdoc.org) and will be
organised as a satellite event of the 22nd International Conference on
Artificial Neural Networks ICANN 2012.

Keynote speakers
---------------------
    • Minoru Asada, Osaka University, Japan
    • Malinda Carpenter, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary
Anthropology, Germany
    • Lionel Boillot, Marie Curie Actions, Research Executive Agency,
European Commission

Important dates
--------------------
Paper Submission: March 20, 2012
Paper Acceptance Notification: May 1, 2012
Camera Ready Papers: July 1, 2012
Conference: September, 10-12, 2012

Submissions
----------------
Submissions are accepted in the form of short papers (4 pages, 2000
words) and abstracts (up to 500 words). Manuscripts will be thoroughly
reviewed by a programme committee consisting of renowned experts in
developmental cognitive robotics, psychology and neuroscience, providing
the applicants with critical feedback and ensuring the high quality of
the conference programme. All accepted submissions will be published on
a CD-ROM with a DOI, and selected for either oral or poster presentation
at the conference. Authors of the best works will be invited to submit a
revised and extended paper for publication in a special issue of the
Paladyn Journal of Behavioral Robotics, with a further peer review stage.

Instructions for the paper submission can be found at the conference
website www.robotdoc.org/conference/

Topic of interests include (but are not limited to)
------------------------------------------------------------
    • Developmental and epigenetic robotics
    • Embodied and situated cognition
    • Neuro-inspired robotics: e.g. motor control, manipulation, memory,
navigation
    • Motivational and affective mechanisms: e.g. emotional mechanisms
in the brain and their modeling
    • Developmental psychology: e.g. cognitive development and its
computational modeling
    • Social interaction: social development, social motivation in
children, joint attention
    • Sensorimotor learning
    • Higher-order cognitive learning, e.g. formation of abstract
concepts, mathematical cognition
    • Any work in the core disciplines of developmental robotics (i.e.
humanoid robotics, cognitive science, artificial intelligence,
developmental psychology, neuroscience) which has significant
implications for developmental robotics

Full papers can be submitted via email until the submission deadline
(20th March 2012).

Student Travel Bursaries
---------------------------------
Papers in which the first author is a PhD student will be considered for
the allocation of 15 travel bursaries.
These bursaries will cover costs related to accommodation and travel up
to a maximum of 500 EUR.
