CALL FOR PAPERS -- SPECIAL ISSUE

Local Search Algorithms for Real-World Scheduling and Planning

Deadline for paper submission: October 31, 2010 (extended)
Expected publication date: June 2011

AIM & SCOPE

Scheduling and planning problems are ubiquitous in many real-world
settings. These problems transpire in a large variety of forms, and
have enormous socio-economic impact. For many years, significant work
has been devoted to automating scheduling and planning processes using
different kinds of methods. This special issue focuses specifically on
the use of local search algorithms for real-world scheduling and
planning by soliciting original scientific contributions in the form
of (1) experimental research based on real-world data and (2)
industrial case studies. Please note that studies based solely on
random data or old benchmark sets from the literature will not be
considered.

The topics of this special issue include, but are not limited to,
methodological developments aimed at adapting some simple local search
based metaheuristics (e.g. Greedy Randomised Adaptive Search and
Variable Neighborhood Search) and/or more advanced ones (e.g.
Simulated Annealing, Tabu Search, Evolutionary Algorithms, Ant Systems
and Particle Swarm Algorithms) to various industrial/real-world
problems; experimental studies on the roles and behaviours of local
search within an evolutionary framework (e.g. Memetic Algorithms)
using real-world data; software implementations for scheduling and
planning; as well as other relevant real-life applications.

We encourage submissions from both academics and practitioners. Two
types of papers are welcome: (1) regular papers reporting new research
or applications and (2) letters or research notes discussing new
developments from the industry.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

Full papers can be submitted to: http://ees.elsevier.com/eaai (all
manuscripts should follow the submission guidelines available at the
web site)

During the submission process, please select special issue on 'LS
Scheduling & Planning' as paper category.

Please submit papers on or before October 31, 2010. All submissions
will be peer-reviewed following the review process of EAAI.

(Prospective authors are encouraged to indicate their interests any
time before the submission deadline)

The special issue is planned to be published in June 2011.
