	1st Workshop on Bio-inspired Models and Technologies for Ambient
		      Information Society (BioAmbIS 2010)
		   Date and place: Dec. 1-3, Boston, MA, USA
		   (held in conjunction with Bionetics 2010)
In the future ambient information society, not only can a user obtain
information in a flexible manner as in the ubiquitous information
society, but also the information systems autonomously provide desired
information to the user and control the environmental conditions
according to the context of the user, e.g. time, place, occasion, and
personal preferences. To realize the ambient information society
beyond simply extending conventional IT, new innovative technologies
are required to tackle the expected challenges, such as inference of
user's desires, recognition of environmental conditions, adaptation of
ambient systems, and provisioning of information to users. The new
technologies also need to be scalable, adaptive, reliable, and
robust. Biologically inspired approaches are promising in building
such technologies by opening up an interdisciplinary way of thinking
and working.

This workshop aims at bringing together researchers and scientists
from several research areas including biology and information sciences
to foster research and development of novel technologies,
architectures and control methods in an ambient information society.

Topics of interest for this workshop include, but are not limited to,
the following:

1) Mathematical models of biological systems
* Models of the adaptive behavior in biological systems
* Models of the robust and resilient behavior in biological systems
* Models of self-organizing behavior in biological systems
* Models of the cognitive process in brain functional networks

2) Bio-inspired application technologies for ambient information society
* Context-aware applications for information services and environmental
* Discovery and organization of ambient information services
* Smart services and ambient-assisted living spaces/healthcare

3) Bio-inspired information technologies for ambient information society
* Information technology for reliable and dependable ambient information
* Self-organization schemes in information networks
* Energy-efficient schemes inspired by nature for Green ICT

4) Bio-inspired networking technologies for ambient information society
* Wireless sensor networks, mobile ad-hoc network, and overlay network
* Optical network to support ambient information society

5) Bio-inspired interface technologies for ambient information society
* Recognition of the environmental condition and user demand
* Human-Machine Interface for smooth and seamless interaction among users
  and environment

Paper Submission Instructions
Authors are requested to submit full papers of up to 12 pages in
Springer LNICST format available from
ftp://ftp.springer.de/pub/tex/latex/lnicst/. The contribution must be
original and previously unpublished. Only PDF files will be
accepted. Papers must be submitted online in a PDF format using the
EasyChair conference management system
(http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bioambis2010) and will be
peer reviewed by the Technical Program Committee. Accepted papers must
be presented at the workshop by one of the authors and will be
published in the Bionetics 2010 conference proceedings by Springer.
