Pervasive Computing : Innovations in Intelligent Multimedia and Applications

A book edited by Aboul-Ella Hassanien, Jemal H. Abawajy, Ajith
Abraham, Hani Hagras

Introduction
Pervasive computing, often synonymously called ubiquitous
computing, is an emerging field of research that brings in revolutionary
paradigms for computing models in the 21st century. Pervasive computing
is the trend towards increasingly ubiquitous connected computing
devices in the environment,
a trend being brought about by a convergence of advanced electronic -
and particularly, wireless -
technologies and the Internet. Recent advances in pervasive
computers, networks, telecommunications,
and information technology, along with the proliferation of multimedia
mobile devices—such as laptops, iPods,
personal digital assistants (PDA), and cellular telephones—have
stimulated the development of intelligent pervasive
multimedia applications. These key technologies are creating a
multimedia revolution that will have significant impact
across a wide spectrum of consumer, business, healthcare, and
governmental domains.
Yet many challenges remain, especially when it comes to efficiently
indexing, mining,
querying, searching, and retrieving multimedia data.

Objective of the Book
In this book, we would like to gather the latest advances of various
topics in intelligent multimedia for
pervasive computing and related areas to showcase their results,
launch new ideas,
as well as to interact with colleagues from these areas and report how
organizations can gain
competitive advantages by applying the different techniques in the
real-world scenarios.
Survey articles that emphasize the research and application of
intelligent multimedia in pervasive
computing in a particular domain are greatly welcome.

Target Audience
This book will be an important reference to researchers/academics working
in the field of Pervasive Computing and its related areas. It will
also be a potential resource for senior undergraduate

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are kindly invited to send on or before
May 20 2008 a short email to
     Aboitcairo at gmail.com

containing a preliminary title and a short abstract of their chapter.
This will facilitate the planning of the review process.

All chapter proposals will be peer reviewed. Full chapters will be
expected by June 15 2008. All submitted chapters will be reviewed by
at least three reviewers on a double-blind review basis.

The book is scheduled to be published by To be published in "Computer
Communications and Networks" published by Springer Verlag, Germany.
