Call for Papers

Special Session on Nature Inspired Algorithms and Their Applications at

The Fourth IASTED International Conference on Advances in Computer Science
and Technology (ACST 2008)

April 2-4, 2008, Langkawi, Malaysia

URL: http://www.iasted.org/conferences/specialsession5-605.html

Natural Computation is a research field that works with computational
techniques and methodologies inspired by nature. When the complex nature is
modeled with computational processes, some conventionally hard problems
could be solved through the design and development of novel computing
systems. These systems are often enthused by the metaphorical use of
concepts, principles and mechanisms based on natural patterns, behaviors and
living organisms.

This special session on nature inspired algorithms will provide a common
forum for researchers and practitioners interested in algorithms involving
evolutionary computation, neural networks and collective intelligence
together to exchange their ideas and report their latest findings. Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to:

*	evolutionary computing
*	neural computing, Bayesian networks, learning algorithms
*	artificial life
*	particle swarm optimization
*	ant colony optimization
*	integration of natural computing techniques in intelligent systems
*	implementation issues of natural computing techniques
*	natural computing approaches for multi-objective optimization
natural computing approaches in knowledge discovery, natural language
processing, image processing, pattern recognition, planning and scheduling,
information security, etc
*	applications in Science and Engineering problems

Paper Submission

Prospective authors are invited to submit papers of no more than six (6)
pages including results, figures and references. Authors should submit their
papers in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), Postscript (.ps), or MS Word (.doc) format
directly to the special session organiser at rchiong at swinburne.edu.my. The
title page of the paper should include author name(s), affiliation, mailing
address, telephone, fax, and e-mail address. All submissions will be
reviewed by a minimum of two reviewers. Acceptance will be based on
originality and contribution. At least one author is expected to register at
the conference and present their paper.

Location

Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands off the North-Western coast of
Peninsular Malaysia. Unique rock formations, ancient rainforests, and
spectacular caves have influenced Langkawi's fantastic legends of gigantic
birds, warriors, and fairy princesses. A natural paradise unmatched in
splendour, it is no wonder it was long known as "Malaysia's best kept
secret." White sandy beaches and clear emerald waters offer visitors
sun-filled days of rest and relaxation, and there are countless ways to add
adventure to your stay. Catch a boat to Palau Payar Marine Park, feed wild
eagles, or explore the world-renowned Cave of Bats. Start your days with the
famous Malay breakfast, freshly prepared nasi lemak - steamed rice in
coconut milk, wrapped in banana leaf - and you will be well on your way to
enjoying this tropical paradise.
