1st Call for Papers
3rd Portuguese Workshop
on
Artificial Life and Evolutionary Algorithms - ALEA'07
http://epia2007.appia.pt/alea/
part of the
Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence (EPIA 2007)
http://epia2007.appia.pt/

3-7 December 2007
Guimarães, Portugal

Aims and Scope
--------------
ALEA'07 is the third international workshop, held in Portugal,
specifically dedicated both to the theory and application of Artificial
Life (ALife) and Evolutionary Algorithms (EA). ALife and EA solutions
have been gaining popularity in solving complex problems of different
industrial, economical, and scientific domains. This workshop is a good
opportunity to gather researchers to present their latest research and
to discuss current developments and applications. The format of the
meeting will be designed to stimulate close interaction between members
of these scientific communities. ALEA'07 has the purpose of thriving to
develop this research area in Portugal, through discussion among
researchers and outstanding international scientists.

The workshop will consist of an invited talk, oral presentations, poster
sessions and ample time for organised discussion. The best accepted
papers will appear in the proceedings published by Springer in the LNAI
series. The remaining accepted papers and posters will be published in a
local edition, both in hard-copy, CD-ROM and on the web.

The workshop is sponsored by APPIA, the Portuguese Association for
Artificial Intelligence. It will be part of a set of Workshops that,
together, will form the Portuguese Conference on Artifical Intelligence
(EPIA 2007).

General topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Genetic Algorithms
- Evolutionary Strategies
- Evolutionary Programming
- Genetic Programming
- Classifier Systems
- Evolutionary Robotics
- Parallel Evolutionary Algorithms
- Evolution Dynamics
- Artificial Immune Systems
- Ant Algorithms
- Cultural Algorithms
- (Particle) Swarm Algorithms
- Systems with emergent properties

Important Dates
---------------
June, 30: Draft papers due
July, 28: Notification of acceptance
September, 1: Camera-Ready papers due
3-7 December : ALEA'07 Workshop and EPIA 2007

Submission Instructions
-----------------------
Submissions must follow the guidelines specified in the main web page of
the conference (see http://epia2007.appia.pt/). In particular, the
reviewing process is double blind. Authors should remove names from the
submitted papers, and should take reasonable care not to indirectly
disclose their identity. References to own work can be included in the
paper, but should be referred to in the third person.
Authors should also prepare their submissions according to instructions
given by Springer for LNCS series authors in http://www.springer.com/
Submissions are made in PDF through EPIA 2007 website
(http://epia2007.appia.pt/). We encourage authors to prepare their
papers in TEX or LATEX because these are more convenient source formats
for the camera ready final version.
