2007 UNCONVENTIONAL COMPUTING
http://uncomp.uwe.ac.uk/uc2007

July 12-14, 2007
Bristol, United Kingdom

The conference is sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences
Research Council, the UK Government's leading funding agency for
research and training in engineering and the physical sciences,
http://www.epsrc.ac.uk and the University of the West of England,
Bristol, http://www.uwe.ac.uk

*** PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE 12TH MAY 2007***

Unconventional computing is the quest for groundbreaking new algorithms
and physical implementations of novel and ultimately --- compared to
classical approaches -- more powerful computing paradigms and machines.
This event will bring together work that focuses on non-traditional
theoretical constructions, experimental prototypes, and genuine
implementations of non-classical computing devices. A further goal
is to revisit existing approaches in unconventional computing, to
provide scientists and engineers with blueprints of realisable computing
devices, and to take a critical glance at the design of novel and
emergent computing systems to point out failures and shortcomings of
both theoretical and experimental approaches.

We welcome submissions from computer scientists, physicists, mathematicians,
chemists, engineers, biologists and everyone who is inspired by the topic
of the conference and by natural phenomena in non-standard computing
schemes.

AIMS and SCOPE

* Physics of computation (conservative logic, thermodynamics of computation,
reversible computing, quantum computing, collision-based computing,
optical logic)
* Chemical computing (logical functions in chemical systems, image
processing and
pattern recognition in reaction-diffusion chemical systems and networks
of chemical reactors)
* Bio-molecular computing (conformation based, information processing in
molecular
arrays, molecular memory)
* Population-based computing ( in bacterial colonies, cell cultures,
insects)
* Complexity (computational complexity of non-standard computer
architectures;
theory of amorphous computing; artificial chemistry)
* Logics of unconventional computing (logical systems derived from
space-time behavior
of natural systems; non-classical logics; logical reasoning in physical,
chemical and biological systems)
* Smart actuators (molecular machines incorporating information
processing, intelligent arrays of actuators)
* Novel hardware systems (cellular automata VLSIs, functional neural chips)
* Mechanical computing (micromechanical encryption, nanomachines,
physical limits to mechanical computation).

LOCATION
The conference will be held in the Watershed Media Centre in the heart of
Bristol UK, which promotes creativity, innovation and talent,
