Mission
*******

With the increase in the complexity of terrorism's networks and activities,
the advances in chemical and biological warfare, and the increased
sophistication of organized criminal activities, it is becoming apparent
that dealing with this complexity using traditional problem solving
approaches
is insufficient. A holistic view that combines bottom-up and top-down
approaches
is vital to capture the interaction within these complex systems and tackle
these problems. This book presents a repertoire for the possible application
of complex information systems to security and defense applications. It
will consist of open-solicited and invited papers written by leading
researchers in the field. All papers will go through a peer review
process by at least two recognized reviewers and one of the editors. Our goal
is to provide a book that covers the foundation as well as the practical side
of the topic.
